Split analysis /thriller

Split is a thriller set in Pensilvania, USA. The scene opens with a teenage girl sitting at a birthday, distantly staring above the camera, we see another group of girls at the other end of the table celebrating someones birthday, laughing, and taking pictures. The juxtaposition between the group of girls happily celebrating and the somber mood of the lone girl at the end of the table shows that she is not a very socially outgoing person, as she does not attempt to get up and celebrate with them. We then cut to the end of the party when the birthday girl and her parents are having a discussion about how they only invited the girl who sat alone to be kind. They then explain how she is pretty much a social outcast at school and that she has had problems with her family. The father of the birthday girls explains that they are not leaving until the girl gets a lift home, when she says shell take the bus they offer her a lift home. In the next scene we see the girls getting into the car while the dad loads the boot of the car, the father then proceeds to ask someone "can i help you?". in the next scene we see the girls in the car as we hear the sound of the car door opening and closing. we then see an eyeline match from the view of original girl, we see the take out containers that the dad was holding splayed out on the floor. A look of panic crosses the girls face as she realises that whoever got in the car wasn't the birthday girls father, she then slowly begins to turn her head towards the drivers seat. When she turns her head we see another man wearing glasses sitting in the drivers seat, the birthday girl in the backseat then says "pardon me sir but i think you have the wrong car" to which he responds by putting a mask on and spraying the two girls in the back with a spray that makes then cough and pass out. We then see the first girl in the front seat begin to tear up and slowly move her hand to the car door handle to quietly attempt an escape, as she does so the car bell goes off so signify that one of the car doors has opened and she turns to face the man in the drivers seat with tears running down her face to see he is already staring at her, he then puts the mask back on and sprays her as well.
